The Heidelberg-based start-up plans to expand into other European countries next year.

Getsafe, the insurance start-up from Heidelberg, already has 200,000 customers, including 10,000 in the UK, as the company has now announced. "Even before the pandemic, many people were used to doing everything conveniently via smartphone," says Christian Wiens, founder and CEO, explaining the business model. "Corona has increased this desire. Getsafe meets the needs of this digitally savvy target group like no other insurer in Europe."

Getsafe was founded in 2015 and advertises with innovative features. Since April, for example, policyholders have been able to track the status of their damage report directly in the app, similar to logistics companies. "We want to build a leading European insurer and help drive the digitalization of the industry." Getsafe offers liability, motor vehicle and supplementary dental insurance. The start-up wants to appeal to a young target group in particular. More than a quarter of customers take out more than one policy. Getsafe therefore has more than 250,000 active policies.

Getsafe plans to launch its own property insurer in the coming months. The company's next markets will focus on neighboring European countries from 2022. The start-up only launched in the UK last year.
