The food delivery company has been convicted in Italy for its discriminatory algorithm and must pay the plaintiffs 50,000 euros each.

Deliveroo suffered a defeat at the Italian court in Bologna. In the dispute with the company, two plaintiff employees won their case. They criticized the company's algorithm, which evaluates the work of the delivery staff and discriminates against them.

For example, FRANK, as the algorithm is called, makes no distinction between justified absence due to a sick note and unexcused absence from work. The court criticized this and ordered Deliveroo to pay 50,000 euros for each rider who brought the case and to pay the costs of the proceedings. Deliveroo itself states that the algorithm has already been replaced by a new one since last fall, so there is no need for any changes in operations. The company also points out that only theoretical discrimination was brought before the court.
