A new financing round for the fintech is said to be imminent - albeit on less favorable terms.

The Swedish fintech Klarna is currently valued at 46 billion US dollars. This makes Klarna one of the most valuable start-ups in Europe. The fintech is now facing its next financing round. However, the new deal will only value the company at 6.5 billion US dollars, according to the Financial Times reported. The new valuation is Klarna's lowest since August 2019, when the company was valued at 5.5 billion US dollars. In the current financing round, Sequoia Capital and Mubadala from Abu Dhabi would like to invest 600 million US dollars in the fintech.

Sebastian Siemiatkowski, Niklas Adalberth and Victor Jacobsson founded the "buy now, pay later" provider in 2005. The US investor Sequoia Capital has been on board since 2010. In the years that followed, well-known investors such as Silver Lake, Atomico, Blackrock, Permira and Softbank joined the company. During the pandemic, Klarna benefited from the increase in online trade. However, this boom is now likely to be over. This is also illustrated by the mass redundancies that have been announced. It was only recently announced that the fintech intends to lay off ten percent of its global workforce.
