The Munich-based start-up has now found a partner to produce the Sion electric solar car.

The start-up Sono Motors has entered into a partnership with the Finnish contract manufacturer Valmet Automotive. Valmet Automotive will now produce the Sion electric solar car in Uusikaupunki, Finland. The contract manufacturer will provide the capacity for the production of more than 257,000 vehicles over a period of seven years. Production is scheduled to start in 2023.

"Together, we are well positioned to keep our promise and deliver a climate-neutral Sion to our customers," says Laurin Hahn, CEO and co-founder of Sono Motors. "This collaboration is another milestone on our journey to deliver the Sion to our ever-growing community." According to the company, which was founded in 2016, it already has 17,000 reservations for the Sion.

However, the vehicle is now set to become more expensive than originally planned. The price for a Sion is currently 23,950 euros net. Now the price is to rise to 25,126 euros net. This is Sono Motors' response to the increase in manufacturing costs due to higher prices for supplier parts and raw materials. However, the vehicles currently reserved are not affected by the price increase.
