15 million US dollars for Origin.Bio

The Munich-based start-up wants to develop synthetic microorganisms that serve as a substitute for raw materials. Origin.Bio was also able to attract prominent business angels in a recent financing round.
The Munich-based start-up Origin.Bio has raised 15 million US dollars in a recent financing round. The round was led by EQTVentures, with Acequia Capital and Inventures also participating. Business angels such as Wise founder Taavet Hinrikus, Teleport founder Sten Tamkivi and Charlie Songhurst are also investing in Origin.Bio.
Founded in 2021, the start-up is dedicated to the fight against petrochemicals, which are found in most of today's products, such as clothing, plastic and personal care products. They are harmful to the environment. Origin.Bio develops synthetic microorganisms to replace the raw materials.
"Origin.Bio supports companies in developing sustainable products with a lower carbon footprint. The support of EQT Ventures on this path makes us proud and courageous at the same time," says founder Jens Klein.
"We believe we are at the beginning of a new paradigm in manufacturing, where synthetic biology has the potential to renew man's relationship with nature and our finite resources from it," says Gregory Bernstein of EQT Ventures. "We at EQT Ventures are thrilled to support Jens and Bior in how goods and materials are being remade for the good of our planet."
