3D Systems apparently takes over Kumovis

Both the US company and the Munich-based start-up are active in the field of medical technology.
According to a report by Medtech Two the start-up Kumovis. Both companies are active in the medical technology sector. The US company sells implantable 3D-printed medical devices. With the acquisition, 3D Systems aims to open up new areas, such as the production of PEEK implants and thus virtual surgical planning.
Alexander Henhammer, Stefan Fischer, Sebastian Pammer, Miriam Haerst and Stefan Leonhardt founded Kumovis at the University of Munich in 2017. The founders use the material PEEK and 3D printing technology to develop medical products such as human implants and surgical instruments. Last year, the start-up expanded to the USA in order to better serve customers in North America. With the merger with 3D Systems, the Kumovis technology will now also be used in Colorado and Belgium.
"By joining forces with 3D Systems, we can combine their outstanding solutions with our unique PEEK printing technology to provide efficient, validated end-to-end workflows for manufacturing personalized implants and improve patient outcomes," co-founder and co-CEO Leonhardt told Medtech Two about the acquisition.
