ChatGPT developers could sell their company

The AI research laboratory behind the AI, OpenAI, is apparently already in talks. The company could then be valued at 29 billion euros.
According to a media report, OpenAI is in talks about selling its AI research lab. In a tender offer, the company would then be valued at 29 billion US dollars. This is reported by the Wall Street Journal. According to the report, venture capitalists Thrive Capital and Founders Fund want to buy shares from existing shareholders. These are employees, for example. There is no official statement from the VCs as yet.
The AI research lab OpenAI recently celebrated a major success with the launch of the chatbot ChatGPT, and the technology sparked intense debate on social media. OpenAI is now expecting a strong increase in sales this year and next. At a pitch, those responsible spoke about a planned turnover of 200 million euros for 2023 and even one billion euros for 2024, according to Reuters reported back in December.
OpenAI was founded in 2015 by Tesla CEO Elon Musk together with investor Sam Altman. Microsoft also invested USD 1 billion in the organization - the company wants to link its Bing search engine with ChatGPT's technology. The chatbot can imitate human conversations and has already sparked debates about the future of academic assignments, for example, thanks to its good results.
The chatbot is not the only well-known project to emerge from the OpenAI research lab. The AI Dall-E, which created images from text-based user input, also became a viral success. According to OpenAI, its aim is to develop artificial intelligence on an open source basis in order to benefit society. It is divided into the non-profit company OpenAI Inc. and the for-profit subsidiary OpenAI LP.
