With good ideas into a greener future of space travel - that is the goal and incentive of the ESA Business Incubation Center award.

ESA's Business Incubation Centre in Baden-Württemberg honored several start-ups at the Green Space Start-up Summit. In addition to the Galileo and Copernicus Masters Awards, the organizer also presented an Audience Award and an Investors Award. The focus was on particularly sustainable projects.

Galileo Masters Award

The Galileo Masters Award goes to start-ups whose business model is based on satellite navigation. First place went to Sam-Dimension. The Stuttgart-based start-up uses drones and geostationing to detect weeds in fields. Artificial intelligence then analyzes the data. Farmers can then better distinguish the weeds from the seedlings and spread the pesticides more accurately. Second place went to the start-up Covadonga with its radar-based ship localization system. The third-placed start-up Match Rider has developed a platform that enables municipalities and companies to develop their own logistics systems.

Copernicus Masters Award

The ESA Business Incubation Centre honors projects from the field of earth observation with the Copernicus Masters Award. The first prize was awarded to the SciNrgy group, which is developing a data platform. The aim is to enable companies to use earth observation images and projections to check whether they have access to renewable energy sources at potential new locations. Second place went to Seqana for its software that can calculate an individual's carbon footprint. The Carbon Monitoring project for the reforestation of forests also received an award.

The first-place winners of the Galileo and Copernicus Masters Awards received prize money of 1,000 euros, a free image film and can use an office in the Tübingen-Reutlingen Technology Park rent-free for two years. The runners-up received prize money of 400 euros and the third-place winners received 200 euros.

Audience Award

The audience chose Klaus Space Transportation as the winner. The start-up from Baden has developed a parachute for rocket stages. This is designed to bring the rocket stages back to earth after entering the atmosphere so that the parts can be reused. As a prize, Klaus Space Transportation received an office space in the Stuttgart co-working place SleevesUp!

Investor award

Xylene won the Investor Award with its blockchain solution for tracking goods. Christopher Edwards and Giuseppe Benenati founded the company in 2019 to enable greater transparency in value chains. The Stuttgart Stock Exchange sponsored the prize money of 300 euros. Second place went to Stuttgart-based start-up SwarmLogistics for its logistics system for trucks.
