With good ideas into a greener future of space travel - that is the goal and incentive of the award of the Business Incubation Centre of ESA.

The Baden-Württemberg Business Incubation Centre of ESA awarded several start-ups at the Green Space Start-up Summit. In addition to the Galileo and Copernicus Masters Awards, the organizer presented an Audience Award and an Investors Award. The focus was on particularly sustainable projects.

Galileo Masters Award

The Galileo Masters Award is given to start-ups whose business model is based on satellite navigation. First place went to Sam-Dimension. The Stuttgart-based start-up uses drones and geostationing to detect weeds in fields. Artificial intelligence then analyzes the data. Farmers can then better distinguish weeds from seedlings and apply pesticides more accurately. Second place went to start-up Covadonga with its radar-based vessel localization system. Third place start-up Match Rider has developed a platform that allows communities and businesses to develop their own logistics systems.

Copernicus Masters Award

The ESA Business Incubation Centre honours projects from the Earth observation sector with the Copernicus Masters Award. The first prize was awarded to the SciNrgy group, which is developing a data platform. Companies will be able to use Earth observation images and projections to check whether they have access to renewable energy sources at potential new sites. Seqana took second place for its software that can calculate an individual's carbon footprint. The Carbon Monitoring project for forest reforestation also won an award.

The first place winners of the Galileo and Copernicus Masters Awards received prize money of 1,000 euros, a free image film and can use an office in the Technology Park Tübingen-Reutlingen rent-free for two years. The runners-up received prize money of 400 euros and the third-place winners 200 euros.

Audience Award

The audience voted Klaus Space Transportation the winner. The start-up from Baden has developed a parachute for rocket stages. The parachute is supposed to bring the rocket stages back to earth after entering the atmosphere so that the parts can be reused. As a prize, Klaus Space Transportation received an office space in the Stuttgart co-working place SleevesUp!

Investor Award

Xylene won the Investor Award with its blockchain solution for tracking goods. Christopher Edwards and Giuseppe Benenati founded the company in 2019 to enable more transparency in value chains. The Stuttgart Stock Exchange sponsored the prize money of €300. Second place went to Stuttgart-based start-up SwarmLogistics for its logistics system for trucks.
