The founders are going along and continuing to work on the Gridx business concept, only under a new roof: the energy group has acquired a majority stake in the start-up.

They wanted to replace the traditional energy supply companies, but now one of these companies has taken over the start-up: Eon has acquired a majority stake in Gridx. The two founders David Balensiefen and Andreas Booke are going along and will continue to run Gridx under the Eon umbrella. "By acquiring a majority stake in gridX, we are consistently continuing on our path towards the decentralized and, above all, digital energy world of the coming decades," says Thomas Birr from Eon, explaining the purchase. Both sides are keeping quiet about the purchase price.

Founded in 2016, Gridx has developed digital solutions for intelligent charging and energy management of renewable energies. With the Xenon platform, the start-up has created a Europe-wide offering for customers that redistributes energy by comparing anonymous real-time data and with the help of AI. Eon is also targeting access to the platform. In addition to restructuring within the Group, the takeover of the start-up is a "key cornerstone of E.ON's digitalization strategy", as stated in the press release.

"Since gridX was founded, our primary goal has always been to generate maximum positive impact through our technology platform," say the Gridx founders about the takeover. And argue that this will enable them to "support their customers even better on the path to a sustainable and decarbonized energy future".

The two companies have been working together since 2017, and Eon has just launched a pilot project with Gridx and the University of Duisburg Essen for intelligent dynamic load management systems (DLM) in Essen. It relieves charging station customers of the need to enter departure and parking times by using an AI to calculate all the necessary data.
