Ex-Siemens supervisor apparently moves to start-up

According to a media report, Gerhard Cromme is joining the battery start-up Theion and taking over as Chairman of the Advisory Board.
The Berlin-based start-up Theion can apparently look forward to a prominent addition to its team. According to a report in the businesswoche will take over the chairmanship of the advisory board of the battery developer. Cromme has worked at Thyssenkrupp, Siemens and Allianz, among others, either on the Supervisory Board or as part of the Management Board.
"If we want to achieve the energy transition, we need high-performance energy storage systems," Cromme told WirtschaftsWoche. "Theion's approach for a powerful and cost-effective battery based on sulphur convinced me."
Theion has been around since 2020 and was founded by aerospace engineer Florian Ruess and battery researcher Marek Slavik. They have opted for a different battery design than most manufacturers. Instead of nickel, manganese and cobalt, they use sulphur in a crystalline state. Carbon nanotubes are also used to increase conductivity. This crystal battery is said to have a high charging capacity, giving electric cars a range three times longer than before. The battery is also said to be rechargeable within minutes and can be produced much more sustainably than conventional batteries.
