Mk2 Biotechnologies closes seed financing round

The Munich-based start-up has raised several million euros in a seed financing round. In autumn, the company will move into a biotechnology start-up center.
Pure peptides can play an important role in the cosmetics, agriculture and food markets - something that Mk2 Biotechnolgies wants to realize. The Munich-based start-up has now received several million euros in its seed financing round. The round was led by deep-tech investor Occident and also included Primecrowd, Seedblink and business angels.
"The key to our process is that we were able to eliminate the existing bottlenecks of established technologies," says founder Sebastian Mangold, describing the gap that his company is closing. Peptides are already being used today, but are often not pure or are very expensive. Mk2 Biotechnolgies offers the amino acid chains as a substitute for preservatives in food or antibiotics in animal husbandry, for example, at prices suitable for mass production.
The Munich-based company is moving to the Innovation and Start-up Center for Biotechnology in Martinsried in the autumn to expand its team and is looking forward to working with the other companies that are also based there: "We expect to exploit the corresponding synergies," says Mangold.
Alongside Konstantinos Antonopoulous and Marco Giuman, he is one of the three founders of Mk2 Biotechnolgies. The Zeidler Research Foundation and research programs participated in a pre-seed financing round.
The trio has now also convinced investors: "With the technology platform and the expertise that the mk2 team brings to the table, the company is in an excellent position for further development. We are very much looking forward to working with this motivated team in the future," says Cédric Barra from Occident about the investment.
