Rewe breaks away from lean period

Two years ago, Rewe secured around 36.6% of the shares in the drinks delivery service Durststrecke. Now the Group is exiting the company and wants to focus on its core competencies again.
According to Lebensmittel Zeitung, Rewe has sold its shares in drinks delivery start-up Durststrecke. The buyer and new majority shareholder is GFGH Direkt. The investment company now owns a total of around 96 percent of the shares.
Rewe had been involved in Durststrecke since February 2020 and held 36.6% of the shares in the beverage delivery service. At the time, the retail group had invested in the start-up in order to enter the beverage home delivery market, in which Flaschenpost is also active. This has apparently failed. Rewe justifies the sale of its shares in Durststrecke with the intention of concentrating on growth in other areas in the future.
Simon Biela and Matthias Steinforth founded Durststrecke in 2017. Customers can order drinks via the delivery platform of the start-up Durst.de. Local drinks retailers then deliver the ordered goods. Durststrecke is active in Bremen, Chemnitz, Dresden, Frankfurt, Cologne, Leverkusen, Munich and Offenbach. Other major cities are set to follow.
