RWTH Aachen University is the best university for start-ups

A study puts the university in NRW in first place. Second place goes to TU Berlin and third place to the University of Tübingen.

First place in the ranking "The best universities for start-ups" goes to RWTH Aachen University in 2022. Second place went to TU Berlin and third place to the University of Tübingen. The "Top 50 Start-ups" platform, which is backed by Passion4Business GmbH, published the ranking.

"The ranking confirms years of experience that technical universities and universities with a technical, scientific or medical focus produce a particularly large number of start-ups," says Florian Hamann, who is responsible for the rankings. "The start-up scene in Germany is strongly driven by scientific innovations, which can be seen from the large number of start-ups founded from universities."

The university ranking is the first in Germany to assess universities exclusively according to their importance for start-up development. Three criteria are decisive for the results: How many members of the founding teams of the current top 50 start-ups studied at the respective university and how do the founders rate the start-up support provided by their universities? The ranking also takes into account the number of EXIST start-up grants and research transfers approved.
