RWTH Aachen is the best university for start-ups

A study elects the university in NRW to the top. Second place goes to the TU Berlin and third place to the University of Tübingen.

First place in the 2022 ranking "The best universities for startups" goes to the Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule in Aachen (RWTH). Second place goes to TU Berlin and third place goes to the University of Tübingen. The "Top 50 Start-ups" platform published the ranking, which is backed by Passion4Business GmbH.

"The ranking confirms years of experience that technical universities and universities with a technical-scientific or medical focus produce a particularly large number of start-ups," says Florian Hamann, who is responsible for the rankings. "The startup scene in Germany is strongly driven by scientific innovation, which can be seen in the large number of startups emerging from universities."

The university ranking is the first in Germany to assess universities exclusively according to their importance for startup development, he said. Three criteria are decisive for the results: How many members of the founding teams of the current top 50 startups studied at the respective university and how do the founders rate the startup support of their universities? The ranking also takes into account the number of EXIST start-up grants and research transfers approved.
