Vicampo apparently bought by Swedish company
The Mainz-based wine start-up now belongs to the Swedish Viva Wine Group. The two founders of Vicampo will remain with the company.
The third takeover on the German market within three years: According to a report in the Handelsblatt acquired the start-up Vicampo from Mainz. The amount is not known. The company acquired Wine in Black in 2018 and Vinexus, including a logistics subsidiary, in 2020. However, with over 200 employees, the online retailer Vicampo is larger than the two previous acquisitions.
In addition to continuing Vicampo GmbH, founders Felix and Max Gärtner will join the holding company Viva Ecom and manage it together with its founder Christian Fricke. The three German start-ups are combined under the holding company. Fricke expects a turnover of between 80 and 100 million euros, according to the Handelsblatt.
Vicampo had established itself as an online marketplace for wines in Germany. Together with Wine in Black, which was also acquired by the Viva Wine Group, Vicampo emerged from a start-up project in 2011; now the companies have been reunited under their new owner.
The Viva Wine Group is a family business that is still 80 percent owned by its founders. It has a market share of 25 percent in Sweden and also sells its wines in Finland, Norway, the UK and China.
