Vicampo apparently bought by Swedish company

The Mainz-based wine start-up is now owned by the Swedish Viva Wine Group. The two founders of Vicampo will stay in the company.

Within three years, the third takeover on the German market is taking place: According to a report of the Handelsblatt's the start-up Vicampo from Mainz. Nothing is known about the sum. In 2018, the company took over Wine in Black, in 2020 Vinexus including a logistics subsidiary. However, Vicampo, an online trader, is larger than the past two acquisitions, with more than 200 employees.

In addition to continuing Vicampo GmbH, founders Felix and Max Gärtner will join the holding company Viva Ecom and manage it together with its founder Christian Fricke. The three German start-ups are grouped together under the holding company. Fricke expects a turnover of between 80 and 100 million euros, according to the Handelsblatt.

Vicampo had established itself as an online marketplace for wines in Germany. Together with Wine in Black, which was also taken over by the Viva Wine Group, Vicampo emerged from a start-up project in 2011, now the companies are united again under their new owner.

The Viva Wine Group is a family business, which is still 80 percent owned by the founders. In Sweden, it has a market share of 25 percent, and it also offers its wines in Finland, Norway, the UK, and China.
