Germany leads the way in green start-ups

According to a new study, almost a quarter of all climate tech start-ups in Europe come from Germany. The topic is also becoming increasingly interesting for investors.
More and more founders and investors are interested in tech start-ups that contribute to solving the climate crisis. At least that's what a recent market analysis by venture capitalists Speedinvest and Creandum shows.
The two companies analyzed data from more than 1,100 start-ups in Europe that want to solve the climate crisis with their technology. "This decade will be crucial for the future of our planet. Humanity has ambitious goals to achieve to stop climate change. We at Creandum and Speedinvest believe that technology will play a major role, and we see Europe as a pioneer for climate tech innovation," writes Ines Streimelweger from Creandum in a recent blog post.
The two investors based their analysis on categories defined by the European Union's Green Deal. The analysis shows that 24% of climate tech start-ups come from Germany. The UK is in second place with 15 percent, followed by France with nine percent. The majority of green start-ups are active in the energy sector and in the field of smart mobility. This also applies to the level of investment. Between 2006 and 2021, start-ups in the energy sector raised the most venture capital at five billion US dollars. Start-ups in the field of smart mobility raised over 3.7 billion US dollars in the same period.
