DHDL deal falls through: Chaanz seeks crowd investors

A dating app where you meet first and then chat: That's the idea behind Chaanz. Now the start-up wants to finance it via crowdfunding.

Chaanz had actually already secured funding for its dating app: Marwin Grundel, Jakob Hubloher and Nino Reiter received an offer from Carsten Maschmeyer and Georg Kofler on the TV show "Die Höhle der Löwen". They were to receive 200,000 euros for 49% of the shares in their start-up. According to Gründerszene, the deal has now fallen through.

The collaboration fell through when the legal conditions, financial planning and market opportunities were reviewed after the broadcast. In addition, the start-up and the investors had different plans for the future strategy. "Our ideas and those of the investors diverged and the deal unfortunately did not materialize," Chaanz Managing Director Marwin Grundel told Gründerszene. Chaanz now wants to raise the 200,000 euros via crowdfunding. Interested parties can invest in the start-up from 50 euros via subordinated loans. Chaanz shows its plans in a roadmap on its website: Beta testing of the app for Apple devices is due to start in June, and the app will then be launched on the market in August. Chaanz would then like to secure follow-up financing from a major investor.

The concept of Chaanz's dating app is different to Tinder or Bumble: users of the app meet before they chat with each other. The profiles remain anonymous until the match is made.
