Exclusive: Kertos receives one million euros

The data protection start-up has thus successfully completed its pre-seed financing round. It is led by 10x Founders.

The Munich-based start-up Kertos has successfully completed its pre-seed financing round. The start-up, which specializes in data protection, was able to raise one million euros. 10x Founders led the financing round. The VCs XDeck and Superlyst as well as some well-known founders such as Fabian Wesemann (Wefox), Ronny Shibley (Gorillas) and Sebastian Schaal (Luminovo) also participated. European legal tech and data protection experts Lisa Gradow (Usercentrics), Phillip Eischet and Benedikt Quarch (Rightnow) also invested.

Kertos structures, manages and automates internal company data protection processes and sees itself as the first project of its kind in Europe. The start-up aims to help companies process personal and therefore sensitive data in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The start-up advertises that this will streamline work processes, relieve employees and free up resources.

"We are honored to be working with such forward-thinking investors and business angels who share our passion and vision for the future of data protection and are helping Europe regain its thought leadership role and develop the next generation of data protection technologies - made in Europe," says co-founder Kilian Schmidt.

With the capital raised, Kertos says it has increased its team to more than 15 members in just a few weeks. It has now also announced the launch of its beta product. "As a developer myself, I was well aware of the high standards and challenges that data protection regulations place on modern engineering teams, but I am really impressed by what the team has achieved in the last few weeks and am looking forward to finally seeing the product in action," says co-founder Alexander Prams.
