Highline receives money from High-Tech Gründerfonds

The Fraunhofer spin-off wants to use its industrial printers to make the production of solar cells more efficient, among other things. The start-up plans to use the fresh capital to start a field test this year.
The Freiburg-based tech start-up Highline is receiving a total of 1.2 million euros from prominent investors. Half of the money comes from the High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF) and half from the Fraunhofer Technologie Transferfonds (FTT).
Highline develops high-precision industrial printers that are currently used in solar cell production, for example. The Freiburg-based company's product enables surfaces to be metallized in a single pass, i.e. coated with silver in the case of solar cells.
"Based on this financing round and together with our industrial partners, we can introduce the technology to the photovoltaic market via a field test in 2021," says the co-founder and Managing Director of Highline, Marian Breitenbücher.
Highline is a spin-off of the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems. The company started work at the beginning of 2020 and currently has 13 employees. "In my view, the level of technology already achieved and the strengths of the team form an
excellent basis for a successful and sustainable market launch," said Olaf Joeressen, Investment Manager at HTGF, on the occasion of the funding.
