Neobank Kontist raises 25 million euros

Kontist has successfully completed a Series B round and will receive 25 million euros. The two investors, Founders and the Haufe Group, have been loyal to the start-up for years.
As a neobank, Kontist is explicitly aimed at the self-employed and freelancers. The Berlin-based fintech has now raised 25 million euros in a Series B round. The round was led by Danish investor Founders, which has been at Kontist's side since it was founded. The Freiburg-based Haufe Group, which already acquired a minority stake in a financing round in 2018, is also involved.
"We are very pleased about the extended commitment of our investors, as they are demonstrating something that we greatly value in our business development as well as in our financing: Sustainability and continuity," says CEO and founder Christopher Plantener. The money will primarily be used to expand the tax service, which uses AI to calculate taxes in real time in the app. Kontist Steuerberatungsgesellschaft is helping to fully automate the company's own accounting.
Investor Founders is also convinced of the further plans: "AI and the automation of processes can create a great deal of operational relief for the self-employed and freelancers. By expanding into the area of taxes, Kontist has identified a game changer for its business model that is only possible thanks to the insights and data available to Kontist," says Simon Sylvest from Founders.
Kontist was founded by Plantener in 2016, and Benjamin Esser has also been CEO of the Berlin-based fintech since the end of 2020. Today, 110 employees work for Kontist.
