Neobank Kontist raises 25 million euros

Kontist was able to close a successful Series B round and receives 25 million euros. The two investors Founders and Haufe Group have been loyal to the start-up for years.

As a neobank, Kontist explicitly targets the self-employed and freelancers. Now, the Berlin-based fintech was able to raise €25 million in a Series B round. The round is led by the Danish investor Founders, which has been on Kontist's side since its foundation. Also involved is the Freiburg-based Haufe Group, which already acquired a minority stake in a financing round in 2018.

"We are very pleased about the extended commitment of our investors, as they are demonstrating something that we value highly in our business development as well as in our financing: Sustainability and continuity," says CEO and founder Christopher Plantener. The money will primarily go towards expanding the tax service, which will use AI to calculate taxes in the app in real time. Kontist tax service helps to completely automate your own accounting.

Investor Founders is also convinced of the further plans: "AI and the automation of processes can create a great operational relief for self-employed and freelancers. By expanding into tax, Kontist has identified a game-changer for its business model, which is only possible thanks to the insights and data Kontist has at its disposal," says Founders' Simon Sylvest.

Kontist was founded by Plantener in 2016, and Benjamin Esser has also been CEO of the Berlin-based fintech since the end of 2020. Today, 110 employees work for Kontist.
