Nüwiel receives two million euros

The company sells electric trailers that are designed to help facilitate heavy transportation in the city without producing too many emissions.
The Hamburg-based start-up Nüwiel has landed two million euros. The money comes from EIT Innoenergy, a cleantech investor co-financed by the EU. Gründerszene first reported on this.
Until now, it has been difficult to transport heavy objects in cities without causing emissions. This is where the company comes in. It wants to simplify transportation with electric trailers that come in the form of bicycle trailers and wheelbarrows.
The company's so-called "zero-force sensor technology" is designed to provide precise synchronization that enables automatic acceleration and braking. According to the company, this works at speeds of up to 25 kilometers per hour for bicycles and e-bikes and up to six kilometers per hour for the wheelbarrow version. The rider should not feel any additional weight.
Nüwiel's customers already include big names such as IKEA, UPS and the Belgian Post. The company intends to use the new capital to double the size of the Nüwiel fleet. The company also wants to expand, including to Austria, France, Belgium and the Netherlands. Nüwiel was founded in 2016 by Natalia Tomiyama and Fahad Khan. The name is made up of the German word "Neu" and the Dutch word "wiel" (meaning "wheel").
