The company sells electric trailers to help provide heavy transportation in the city without emitting too many emissions.

The Hamburg-based startup Nüwiel has landed two million euros. The money comes from EIT Innoenergy, a cleantech investor co-funded by the EU. Gründerszene reported on this first.

Until now, it has been difficult to transport heavy things in cities without emitting emissions. This is where the company comes in. It wants to simplify transportation with electric trailers that come in the form of bike trailers and wheelbarrows.

The company's so-called "zero-force sensor technology" is said to offer precise synchronization that enables automatic acceleration and braking. According to the company, this works up to 25 kilometers per hour for bicycles and e-bikes and up to six kilometers per hour for the wheelbarrow version. The rider is said to feel no additional weight in the process.

Nüwiel's customers already include big names such as IKEA, UPS and the Belgian Post. The company wants to use the new capital to double the size of the Nüwiel fleet. The company also wants to expand, including to Austria, France, Belgium and the Netherlands. Nüwiel had been founded in 2016 by Natalia Tomiyama and Fahad Khan. The name is made up of the German word "Neu" and the Dutch word "wiel" (meaning "wheel").
