The Berlin start-up is suffering from the coronavirus pandemic. This is now also affecting the workforce.

It's nothing new that the pandemic is hitting the catering industry hard, and with it the associated areas, such as the Berlin start-up Quandoo, which provides a reservation platform for restaurants. It has now confirmed to Gründerszene that 87 employees from various departments and countries will have to be made redundant. Most recently, Quandoo had over 450 employees.

"Due to the ongoing lockdown and restrictions, we unfortunately have to take more measures to promote the health and well-being of our company," the company told Gründerszene.

Quandoo tried to support the restaurant industry during the pandemic, for example waiving the basic fees for restaurants in Austria in mid-2020. Features were also added to the app that allowed restaurants to plan their rooms or inform guests about the current hygiene rules. The start-up was founded in 2012 and sold to the Japanese company Recruit Holdings in 2015 for around 199 million euros. Today, it is represented in 290 cities in 11 countries.
