The Berlin start-up is suffering from the corona pandemic. This is now also affecting the workforce.

It's no news that the pandemic is hitting the restaurant industry hard, and with it the associated sectors, like Berlin-based start-up Quandoo, which provides a reservation platform for restaurants. Now it confirmed to Gründerszene

that 87 employees from various divisions and countries will have to be laid off. At last count, Quandoo had over 450 employees.

"Due to the ongoing lockdown and retrenchment, we unfortunately need to take more steps to promote the health and well-being of our company," the company told Founderscene

.

Quandoo tried to support the restaurant industry during the pandemic, for example waiving the basic fees for restaurants in Austria in mid-2020. It also added features to the app that allowed restaurants to schedule their rooms or informed guests about the latest hygiene rules. The start-up was founded in 2012 and sold to Japanese company Recruit Holdings in 2015 for around €199 million. Today, it has a presence in 290 cities in 11 countries.
