Transverse field collects money for the first time

The Berlin start-up, which aims to save aesthetically unappealing fruit and vegetables, wants to expand its end customer business following a successful financing round.

Seven years after it was founded, the Berlin start-up Querfeld has successfully completed its first financing round. A total of 500,000 euros was raised. The money comes from the family office 4L Vision of entrepreneur Ralph Suikat.

Frederic Goldkorn and Isabell Bleeser founded Querfeld in 2015. The start-up collects organic fruit and vegetables that are not suitable for retail due to their appearance directly from farmers. According to the company, this involves up to 30 percent of the harvest. Querfeld originally supplied commercial kitchens with its products, but the Berlin-based company also built up its end customer business during the coronavirus pandemic. Thanks to the financing round, this is now to be brought to all major cities in Germany. "The new capital gives us the opportunity to invest further in our software, standardize our processes at all locations and take Querfeld to the next level with new, experienced staff," says CEO Goldkorn.

4L Vision sees great potential in the start-up. "The development from food rescue to food marketing is also changing the retail sector, in which only a few large companies have set the rules to date," explains Alexander Racquet, Commercial Officer of the investor.
