Transverse field collects money for the first time

The Berlin-based start-up, which aims to rescue aesthetically unappealing fruits and vegetables, is looking to expand its end-customer business following a successful funding round.

The Berlin-based start-up Querfeld has conducted its first financing round seven years after its founding and has now successfully completed it. A total of 500,000 euros was raised. The money came from entrepreneur Ralph Suikat's family office 4L Vision.

Frederic Goldkorn and Isabell Bleeser founded Querfeld in 2015. The start-up collects organic fruits and vegetables, which are not suitable for retail due to their appearance, directly from farmers. According to the company, this involves up to 30 percent of the harvest. Originally, Querfeld subsequently supplied large kitchens with its products, but in the wake of the Corona pandemic, the Berlin-based company also built up its end-customer business. Thanks to the financing round, this will now be brought to all major cities in Germany. "The new capital gives us the opportunity to invest further in our software, standardize our processes at all locations and bring Querfeld to the next level with new, experienced staff," says CEO Goldkorn.

4L Vision sees great potential in the startup. "The evolution from food rescue to food marketing is also changing retail, where until now only a few large companies have set the rules," explains Alexander Racquet, Commercial Officer of the investor.
