The Arab mobility provider gains a foothold in Germany with the takeover of the Berlin start-up.

After ten years, the start-up Door2door is changing hands. The company has announced that it is being taken over by the Arab mobility start-up Swvl. Door2door did not disclose the price of the takeover.

"Swvl and Door2door share a common belief in revolutionizing traditional public transport systems with technology-enabled mobility solutions," says Mostafa Kandil, CEO of Swvl. The solutions of both companies would focus on accessibility, convenience and sustainability. Swvl has so far focused its offerings on Transportation-as-a-Service for private and business customers, while Door2door offers Mobility-as-a-Service.

Tom Kirschbaum and Maxim Nohroudi founded Door2door in 2012 and together with Swvl they now want to become a global "Mobility Champion". "By merging the two companies, we will consistently expand our technology leadership," say the founders. Together, the two providers are active in 20 countries and on four continents. Joint preparations are currently underway for the IPO on the US NASDAQ.
