The Arab mobility provider gains a foothold in Germany by acquiring the Berlin-based start-up.

After ten years, the start-up Door2door is changing hands. The company announced it is being acquired by Arab mobility start-up Swvl. Door2door did not disclose the price of the acquisition.

"Swvl and Door2door share a common belief in revolutionizing traditional public transportation systems with technology-enabled mobility solutions," said Mostafa Kandil, CEO of Swvl, adding that both companies' solutions would target accessibility, convenience and sustainability. Swvl has so far focused its offerings on Transportation-as-a-Service for residential and business customers, while Door2door offers Mobility-as-a-Service.

Tom Kirschbaum and Maxim Nohroudi founded Door2door in 2012, and together with Swvl, they now aim to become a global "mobility champion." "By merging the two companies, we will consistently expand our technology leadership," say the founders. Together, the two providers operate in 20 countries and on four continents. Currently, the joint preparations for the IPO on the US NASDAQ are underway.
