Double-digit million sum for Gitpod

Less than a year after it was founded, General Catalyst joins the Kiel-based programming start-up. There is also a new supervisory board.
The Kiel-based coding platform Gitpod receives 13 million US dollars in additional capital. The US venture capitalist General Catalyst is leading the financing round. The existing investors Speed Invest, Crane Venture Partners and Vertex Ventures are also involved again.
Steve Herrod, Managing Director at General Catalyst, will also become a member of the young company's supervisory board. Gitpod aims to offer programmers a simple, partially automated application that will make it easier for them to build websites, for example. Founded in 2020, the company says it has already attracted 350,000 users. "Developers today are struggling with larger codebases and more complex dependencies, resulting in cluttered environments that hinder productivity and collaboration. Gitpod removes this friction," Steve Herrod told "Gründerszene".
