According to a study, Germany is also developing well as a business location. Five of the ten largest deals last year went to German start-ups.

Across Europe, 88.1 billion euros flowed into start-ups last year. Much of the money ended up in Berlin and Munich: In the top 10 ranking of most completed financing rounds in the Start-up Barometer of the auditing and consulting firm EY, the German capital came in second place, closely followed by Paris. Only in London were more financing rounds completed. Munich came in seventh place.

Berlin is also in second place in terms of financing volume: start-ups from the capital received a total of 10.5 billion euros last year. This corresponds to an increase of 243 percent in just one year. Munich start-ups received a total of four billion euros. This makes the Bavarian capital the city with the fourth-largest total financing volume in Europe.

Germany as a whole also performs well in the EY study. Only the British market is even stronger. "Even though London is still the leader due to its long history as an important financial center, the dynamics clearly speak for Germany," says EY partner Thomas Prüver. In Germany, start-ups closed five of the ten largest deals last year. The fast delivery service Gorillas came fourth in the ranking of top deals with a financing round worth 861 million euros. The software start-up Celonis, the neobank N26, the neobroker Trade Republic and the charging station operator Ionity also made it into the top 10 deals.
