Munich is Germany's start-up capital - at least according to Hubert Aiwanger

More start-ups per capita were founded in Munich in 2022 than in Berlin. The Bavarian Minister of Economic Affairs therefore praises the city's own economic policy.
In 2022, 14.5 start-ups were founded per 100,000 inhabitants in Munich - more than in Berlin in relative terms for the first time. The capital city has 13.6 start-ups per 100,000 inhabitants. These figures come from the report by the German Start-ups Association. According to the report, there were 215 new start-ups in Munich, while there were 501 new start-ups in Berlin. Nationwide, the number of new start-ups fell by 18 percent last year.
The Bavarian Minister of Economic Affairs, Hubert Aiwanger (Free Voters), sees his "Gründerland" initiative confirmed. Through competitions such as "Start?Zuschuss!" and investments from the Bayern 2 growth fund, the Free State supports start-ups in both the foundation and growth phases. According to the report, many companies are created in the B2B and high-tech sectors.
"Munich is Germany's new start-up capital," says Aiwanger. But Berlin's Senator for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises is also certain: "Berlin is the top destination for start-ups, talent and investors." According to Ernest & Young's Start-up Barometer, a total of 9.9 billion euros flowed into German start-ups in 2022. Of this, 4.9 billion euros went to Berlin - and 2.4 billion to Bavaria.
