The Munich-based start-up develops lidar sensors and is now looking to tap into the Chinese market.

The Munich-based start-up Blickfeld is establishing a branch in Shanghai and is thus setting its sights on the Chinese market. The manufacturer of lidar sensors currently has four employees working in China, as Munich Startup reports. Mike Yang, who previously worked for companies such as Osram, General Electric and Valeo Sylvanie, will be General Manager of the China branch.

Yang describes it as an "exciting task" to introduce the lidar sensors to the Chinese market. "My team and I are excited about the many opportunities that are already emerging and look forward to making Lidar available to any company that can become more profitable as a result - and there are countless of them," he says.

Lidar stands for Light Detection and Ranging and is a method of environmental detection. Lidar sensors generate three-dimensional information about the shape and surface properties of surrounding objects. Field-of-view lidar sensors are used at Frankfurt Airport, for example, to better predict passenger flows and reduce waiting times at security checkpoints.
