BMW launches new start-up challenge

Start-ups can still take part until the end of June.
BMW is looking for sustainable start-ups for the "Open Call 360° Sustainability" challenge. Start-ups can apply to take part in seven fields of innovation: recyclable materials, sustainable supply chain, energy-efficient production, mobile intelligence, intelligent building management, customer-oriented mobility and future-proof technologies. There is also the possibility of a wild card for a topic that cannot be assigned to any of these fields but is nevertheless exciting.
"We look forward to receiving applications from founders from all over the world," says Bernhard Schambeck, Head of the BMW Start-up Garage. "We have long been convinced that start-ups can help us shape connected, individual and sustainable mobility."
On May 11, applicants will have the opportunity to find out more about the program and the seven fields in which they can apply in a one-hour virtual event from 4 to 5 pm. The application deadline is June 28. Founders can apply here. The selected start-ups can then present their product or service in a pitch at the end of July. If the pitch is successful, BMW will be a customer. The winners will receive a prize at the IAA in Munich in September.
Since 2015, more than 100 technology start-ups have gone through the BMW Start-up Garage program. According to BMW, the investment volume to date amounts to more than 2.8 billion US dollars. The competition is open for the first time.
