Rfrnz ceased operations at the end of 2020. Now the founders have new jobs.

The international commercial law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has brought four team members from the start-up Rfrnz into its Munich and Berlin offices. This was reported by the trade journal Juve. The team includes the two founders Adriaan Schakel and Moritz Biersack as well as backend developer Fillipe Galiza and machine learning engineer Ramesh Kumar. The four are not lawyers, but will strengthen the firm's Global Technology & Innovation department.

Legaltech Rfrnz started in 2017 with contract analysis software for law firms and companies. Apparently due to a lack of follow-up investment, the start-up had to cease operations at the end of last year. In addition, a strategic takeover is said to have fallen through at the last minute. In 2019, Rfrnz raised a seven-figure sum from investors. Investors included High-Tech Gründerfonds and the Initiative for Industrial Innovators.
