Rfrnz ceased operations at the end of 2020. Now the founders have new jobs.

International business law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has brought four team members from start-up Rfrnz to its Munich and Berlin offices. This is reported by the trade journal Juve

. According to the report, the team includes founders Adriaan Schakel and Moritz Biersack, as well as back-end developer Fillipe Galiza and machine learning engineer Ramesh Kumar. The four are not lawyers, but are expected to strengthen the firm's Global Technology & Innovation practice.

Legaltech Rfrnz launched in 2017 with a contract analytics software for law firms and corporates. Apparently due to lack of follow-on investment, the startup had to shut down its operations late last year. In addition, a strategic acquisition reportedly fell through at the last minute. In 2019, Rfrnz still collected a seven-figure sum from investors. The backers included High-Tech Gründerfonds and the Initiative for Industrial Innovators.
