Initially, the company will only supply halal food to households in Germany. Internationalization is soon to follow.

The Berlin start-up Gethalal is launching a food delivery service for halal and Eastern food. The company's pre-seed round has attracted top international investors. These include Hof Capital and Food Angels. In addition, Shio Capital is one of the first Gorillas investors. Gethalal is supported by the Berlin venture builder MVP Factory, which is also the main investor in the financing round. Business angels such as Karim Zaghloul from Workmotion, Mohannad Ali from Hotjar and the former C-level manager of Tier and Hellofresh, Roger Hassan, have also contributed money.

Founders Ali Mahmoud and Osama Soady have been building Gethalal from the company's Berlin headquarters and its technology center in Egypt since it was founded at the end of 2020. "Our 12-month MVP in Berlin showed strong product-market fit and 70% retention after six months. So now we know exactly our target groups and business metrics and are very confident to scale our product with accelerated speed," says co-founder Soady. Gethalal is only available throughout Germany for the time being, but internationalization is set to start soon.

"Food delivery is booming, but halal as a dietary concept of choice for millions of people is still untapped," says Ali Mahmoud, co-founder and CEO of Gethalal. "We have a diverse target group of Turks, Arabs, Africans, Asians and Europeans. Our customers are the largest and fastest growing cultural group in Europe." The company plans to build up a customer base first so that it can then meet the supermarket needs of Muslim families. "Gethalal is not just another food delivery service. Gethalal serves an untapped niche of the grocery market that is quite large and very promising," says Philipp Petrescu, founder and CEO of lead investor MVP Factory.
