Initially, the company will only supply Germany's households with halal food. Internationalization is to come soon.

Berlin-based startup Gethalal is launching a food delivery service for halal and eastern foods. The company's pre-seed round has attracted top international investors. Among them are Hof Capital and Food Angels. It also has Shio Capital, one of the first Gorillas investors. Gethalal is supported by Berlin-based venture builder MVP Factory, which is also the main investor in the financing round. Business angels such as Karim Zaghloul of Workmotion, Mohannad Ali of Hotjar or the former C-level manager of Tier and Hellofresh, Roger Hassan, have also injected money.

Founders Ali Mahmoud and Osama Soady have built Gethalal from the company's Berlin headquarters and its technology center in Egypt since its inception in late 2020. "Our 12-month MVP in Berlin showed strong product market fit and retention of 70 percent after six months. So now we know exactly our target audiences and business metrics and are very confident in scaling our product at an accelerated rate," says co-founder Soady. For now, Gethalal is only available throughout Germany, but internationalization is expected to start soon.

"Food delivery is booming, but Halal as the nutritional concept of choice for millions of people is still untapped," says Ali Mahmoud, Gethalal's co-founder and CEO. "We have a diverse audience of Turks, Arabs, Africans, Asians and Europeans. Our customers are the largest and fastest growing cultural group in Europe." The company's plan is to first build a customer base and then meet the supermarket needs of Muslim families. "Gethalal is not just another grocery delivery service. Gethalal serves an untapped niche of the grocery market that is quite large and very promising," says Philipp Petrescu, founder and CEO of lead investor MVP Factory.
