Plusdental expands to Spain

Exclusive: The Berlin-based start-up manufactures dental splints and is currently represented in seven countries. Plusdental is now expanding into its eighth region and investing a double-digit million euro sum.

Plusdental is expanding into Spain and plans to invest a total of ten million euros. This would mark the Berlin-based start-up's eighth market just a few years after it was founded. Constantin Bisanz, David Khalil, Peter Baumgart and Lukas Brosseder founded the start-up in 2017 under the name Sunshine Smile. The start-up later changed its name and is now part of the Straumann medical group.

The start-up produces transparent dental splints and, according to its own information, cooperates with around 200 dental practices. Customers have an impression of their teeth taken at the practices, which is then sent to Plusdental. The start-up then produces a transparent dental splint that is designed to permanently straighten adult teeth. Patients can use an app to digitally track the steps from the appointment to the follow-up.

The start-up opened a pop-up store in Spain back in February and has been active there ever since. Plusdental is currently looking for larger premises for its team. There is no shortage of other plans either. Managing Director Eva-Maria Meijnen says: "Our goal is to scale up quickly in one of the largest markets for aligner treatments and thus consistently underpin our claim to market leadership in Europe."

Plusdental already raised 32 million euros in a financing round in May 2020. The money came from Ping An from China, Holtzbrinck Ventures and Lakestar, among others.
