Ukraine orders 105 drones from Quantum-Systems

The Munich-based start-up manufactures reconnaissance drones. They are to provide video footage to Ukrainian soldiers on the front line.

Ukraine has ordered 105 drones from Munich-based start-up Quantum-Systems. The company announced this at the Handelsblatt-"Security and Defense" conference. The order is worth around 20 million euros. The German government is co-financing the delivery. The agreement also includes the start-up, which was founded in 2015, training the Ukrainian armed forces and providing technical support on site.

Quantum-Systems is to supply Vector reconnaissance drones, which will support the Ukrainian armed forces on the front line with situation pictures and video recordings of Russian artillery and troop movements. The drones also assess battle damage and protect convoys.

Quantum-Systems supplied the Ukrainian armed forces with 33 reconnaissance drones back in August 2022. Since then, the start-up has overhauled the drone, which can now also fly in areas with disrupted GPS thanks to a new software update. The German government also supported the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense at the time with funds from the upgrading initiativewith which it provided two billion euros for military support for Ukraine last year.

In 2021, Quantum-Systems completed two rounds of financing. In June, the company received 30 million euros, including from Thiel Capital; in October, it received 17.5 million euros.
