The company has been working on quantum sensor projects since 2018. With the new start-up, Bosch now wants to be able to use this field commercially.

The corporate giant Bosch, with its legal headquarters in Stuttgart and head office in Gerlingen, has founded a new in-house start-up. The aim is to commercialize quantum sensors. The CEO of the newly founded start-up is Katrin Kobe, who holds a doctorate in physics. The new subsidiary already has 15 employees. The team is set to grow to more than 20 employees in the coming months. Engineers and business field developers are still needed in particular.

Bosch believes that the market for sensors will soon experience strong growth. The market volume for quantum sensors alone should soon be worth up to seven billion US dollars. In 2021, a total of 22 billion US dollars will have been invested in quantum technology worldwide. The company therefore wants to bundle the research results of recent years in the new start-up and then transfer them into products in order to be part of the potential market growth. The company has been working on eight publicly funded quantum sensor technology projects since 2018. With the start-up, Bosch now wants to strategically develop this field for itself.

The new CEO Kobe has more than 25 years of management experience from working in various technology companies. She explains: "As a global company with collaborations and expertise in the field of quantum technology, Bosch is seizing the opportunity to drive forward this future topic in the agile environment of a start-up."

Quantum sensors are intended, for example, to help diagnose neurological diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's more accurately and easily. They will also be used to record nerve impulses in order to control medical prostheses in the future, for example. "Quantum technology is pushing the boundaries of what is possible - both in the field of data processing and sensors," says Jens Fabrowsky, the Bosch board member responsible for semiconductors.
