News app Informed launches in Germany

Marius Ochs Marius Ochs | 09.11.2022

The Berlin start-up wants to win over customers with a kind of Spotify for journalism. The offer costs 7.99 euros a month.

The news app Informed aims to bring curated news journalism to users with a freemium model. The founding trio consists of a business strategist, a journalist and a tech guy. The former is Axel Bar Bringéus, who drove Spotify's global expansion. Business journalist Martin Kaelble, who worked under at Capital, will be responsible for content. Developer Benjamin Mateev previously worked at Microsoft and Wunderlist. We spoke with him Startbase about the plans back in June.

The project was founded in 2021 and is now available in the app stores. Informed was able to raise five million US dollars in seed funding from HV Capital and 468 Capital, among others.

A limited number of articles are available to users for free. A subscription costs 7.99 euros a month or 59.99 euros as an annual subscription. Similar projects have not been successful in the past. For example, the Dutch start-up Blendle or Apple's pre-installed News+ offering.
