ChatGPT to be used in schools in Austria

In New York, the use of OpenAI's text AI has already been banned. In Austria, however, there are ideas to use the chatbot to improve source criticism skills.
The Austrian Ministry of Education sees it as the task of schools to integrate new technologies into lessons and "ultimately make them part of the curriculum themselves", according to a report by futurezone.at. This also applies to ChatGPT, a text AI that is already frequently used by pupils. Of course, pupils are not allowed to cheat with the AI, says the Ministry of Education. However, a ban like the one in the US state of New York is not planned.
According to the Austrian Ministry of Education, teachers now need to be intensively informed. The chatbot is to be used in the future to set tasks adapted to the respective learners through "adaptive learning". As futurezone reports, such programs are already being integrated into teacher training courses. Teaching and learning materials, for example for source criticism, are also already being tested in the classroom. ChatGPT's answers are often eloquent, but not always correct. In Germany, too, the respective state ministries are now planning the correct use of ChatGPT. In North Rhine-Westphalia, for example, the chatbot is also unlikely to be banned, writes the tagesschau. Instead, the app is already part of the state's digital training offensive.
