Enapter receives major order from South Korea

The Asian country is building a pilot project for the production of green hydrogen on the island of Jeju. The Berlin-based start-up is supplying two megawatt electrolysers for the project.

Berlin-based Enapter AG and its Korean partner Yest have been awarded a contract to supply two AEM hydrogen generators with a total capacity of two megawatts. The systems will be used in a 12.5 megawatt hydrogen pilot project on the South Korean island of Jeju. The local Ministry of Industry and Trade is funding the project with 62 billion South Korean won, which corresponds to around 43.4 million US dollars. The financial volume of the order to Enapter is not known.

The aim of the pilot project is to investigate and compare different electrolysis technologies. Five companies have been selected for the project, Enapter is the only one from Europe. The Berlin-based company's systems are expected to help produce more than 1,000 tons of hydrogen per year. Yest is installing the devices on site; the companies have been working together since 2021.

Enapter AG was founded in 2004 and is an energy technology company specializing in highly efficient hydrogen generators. It is headquartered in Germany and has its production site in Italy. The company aims to help replace fossil fuels globally. Enapter relies on anion exchange membrane technology (AEM). According to the company, this enables the series and mass production of generators worldwide and on any scale.
