Enapter receives major order from South Korea

On the island of Jeju, the Asian country is building a pilot project for the production of green hydrogen. The Berlin-based start-up is supplying two megawatt electolysers for the project.

Berlin-based Enapter AG, together with its Korean partner Yest, has been awarded a contract to supply two AEM hydrogen generators with a total capacity of two megawatts. The systems will be used in a 12.5-megawatt hydrogen pilot project on Jeju Island in South Korea. The local Ministry of Industry and Trade is funding the project with 62 billion South Korean won, which is equivalent to about 43.4 million U.S. dollars. The financial volume of the order placed with Enapter is not known.

The aim of the pilot project is to investigate and compare different electrolysis technologies. Five companies have been selected for the project, and Enapter is the only one from Europe. The Berlin-based company's systems are expected to help produce more than 1,000 tons of hydrogen annually. The company Yest installs the devices on site; a cooperation between the companies has been in place since 2021.

Founded in 2004, Enapter AG is an energy technology company specializing in high-efficiency hydrogen generators. It is headquartered in Germany and has production facilities in Italy. The company aims to help replace fossil fuels globally. To do so, Enapter relies on anion exchange membrane (AEM) technology. According to the company, this enables series and mass production of the generators worldwide and on any scale.
