Fifa cooperates with Kinexon

The soccer association relies on the German start-up's technology. Kinexon measures the movement data of players.

Soccer's governing body FIFA and the Munich-based start-up Kinexon have announced a cooperation in the field of live player tracking. "Working with industry pioneers who have already proven their expertise in pioneering product innovations is of key importance to us," says Nicolas Evans, Head of Football Research & Standards at FIFA. "As one of these companies, KINEXON will create an even better quality of experience for everyone involved in soccer - players, clubs, leagues, associations and fans." The data is to be made available in real time so that coaches, for example, can make decisions based on data during the match. Together, FIFA and Kinexon want to find new standards for live data.

Kinexon offers its customers real-time localization, especially in sports for player and ball tracking and tactical analysis. Kinexon works with ultra-broadband technology. Its customers include more than 400 sports clubs and sports associations, including FC Bayern Munich and the German Handball League. BMW, Continental and Zalando also work with the start-up's product.

"We are convinced that live player tracking will fundamentally change the presentation and perception of sport around the world," says Oliver Trinchera, co-founder of Kinexon. "Our technology will benefit players, clubs and fans alike by bringing a new dimension of engagement and experience to the entire soccer community." Together with FIFA, Kinexon also wants to develop new applications for soccer. The cooperation is part of the "Fifa Preferred Provider" initiative.
