Hamburg gets center for deep tech start-ups

A new innovation center has opened on the Bahrenfeld research campus. The first start-ups are already moving into the premises.
A new innovation center for high-tech start-ups has opened in Hamburg. The "Start-up Labs Bahrenfeld" will provide research-intensive start-ups with a physical or bio-physical background with offices and laboratories. The four-storey building offers 4,000 square meters of space, almost a quarter of which is laboratory space.
The Start-up Labs Bahrenfeld are a joint project of the German Electron Synchrotron DESY research center, the University of Hamburg and the City of Hamburg. The developers hope that the proximity to other institutes and research facilities in the vicinity will also promote scientific exchange and networking.
The official opening is not planned until September, but the first tenants are already moving in. A total of eight start-ups, including WiredSense and X-Spectrum, both of which manufacture detectors, have relocated their start-ups to Bahrenfeld.
