A new innovation center has opened on the Bahrenfeld research campus. The first start-ups are already moving into the rooms.

A new innovation center for high-tech start-ups has opened in Hamburg. The "Start-up Labs Bahrenfeld" will provide offices and laboratories for research-intensive start-ups with a physics or bio-physics background. The four-story building offers 4,000 square meters of space, of which just under a quarter is laboratory space.

Start-up Labs Bahrenfeld is a joint project of the research center Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron DESY, the University of Hamburg and the City of Hamburg. Due to the proximity to other institutes and research facilities in the vicinity, the developers also hope for scientific exchange and networking.

The official opening is not scheduled until September, but the first tenants are already moving in. A total of eight start-ups, including WiredSense and X-Spectrum, both of which manufacture detectors, have relocated their start-ups to Bahrenfeld.
