Hessische Beteiligungsgesellschaft is pleased with its successful financial year

In 2021, MBG H was able to increase the equity capital for SME and start-up promotion in Hesse.

Mittelständische Beteiligungsgesellschaft Hessen (MBG H) can look back on a good year: in 2021, it not only increased its annual net profit by more than 90 percent to around 756,100 euros, but also approved more investments in SMEs and start-ups than in the previous year. According to MBG H, a total of 15 investments with a total volume of €5.8 million were approved compared to 13 investments with a total volume of €4.7 million in the previous year.

"Even after two years of coronavirus - or perhaps precisely because of it - we can see how many creative ideas are emerging in our federal state. How many companies have developed new ideas, have new perspectives and are looking to the future with confidence," says Jürgen Zabel, Managing Director of Beteiligungs-Managementgesellschaft Hessen mbH (BMH), which manages MBG H. BMH bundles all public investment interests and financing instruments for start-ups and SMEs in Hesse and is a subsidiary of Landesbank Hessen-Thüringen (Helaba).

The start-ups in which MBG H invests have been supported "so that they can survive the crisis as well as possible together with us", says Zabel. MBG H has supported the companies, for example by deferring interest and repayment payments and increasing additional equity capital. MBH H also made high risk provisions in 2021 and recognized impairments on investments in the amount of €497,500 (previous year: €942,800).

The investment company provides start-ups in Hesse with mezzanine capital in the form of silent partnerships over a period of ten years. The company focuses on companies with innovation and growth prospects. In the past financial year, MBG H invested in 98 Hessian companies.
